Has anyone had issues with the outside wall canvas not reaching completely around? We came up about a foot short. Everything was lining up perfectly till about the halfway point. Thinking about ordering another aluminum channel and building a little wall to meet it.

Hmm, I did not have that issue. Are you sure the diameter is exact? I do remember we had to pull ours tight, but it was not a foot. Of course, I went with a different manufacturer (Pacific Yurts). I would ask the guys at

Colorado Yurts

if you are sure the diameter is correct. They are pretty good to work with and they may have some ideas.

Oh and I remember that wrinkly look when we first put ours up. Rest assured that they relax after a couple weeks. If you don't mind me asking, what part of the country is this? I assume where there is little to no snow?

No snow!! We are coastal Northern California. It gets cold but no snow. We did install the roof

insulation

and are planning some type of wall

insulation

next year. We talk to Colorado Yurt Company and we may have started hanging the walls on the wrong grommet

Obviously wall lineal foot age is gonna be short if the yurt is even slightly wider in diameter. I don't get the part about where you start the wall cover? Lineal footage is lineal footage regardless of where you start, unless there is supposed to be a fold over, or overlap somewhere. There are 94+ lineal feet on the wall of a 30' yurt. My guess- and it is a guess- is that the wall a foot short missing foot is simply due to a very small increase in the yurt diameter. That or wall cover shrinkage for some reason. Measure the length maybe?

To 'shorten' the wall to get the cover to fit on a 30' yurt with all the rafters up is gonna be a real trip. This is why when I built my yurts I pre built my top cable to exact size based on yurt diameter. That way when I drop the cable in the lattice crosses, the yurt is 'on the money' size wise, and the rafters fit tight at exactly the right aI find a painless install a snap doing such. Exactly the correct diameter for a painless rafter install is easy as can be.

And rafter fit 'IS' a big issue with me. I wrestled that into the ground the first erection, rafters flopping out due to mere guesswork. I quickly figured out the cable trick and lemme tell yuh it works great. The cover is along for the ride on my Mongolian style camping yurt. A huge fancy Americanized yurt is a whole nuther ball game I never played though.

Off topic. One thing I noticed watching several Mongolian yurt erections on youtube, those folks seem to just do it by eye. Beats me how they get the diameter correct, but they just pre tension the yurt wall without a tape. That type of long rafter tenon might allow that where my ring equires the rafter tenons buried in the ring to get the best most solid fit. Different styles I guess. That plus being nomads, they tear down and reerect their yurts a whole lot more than we do here in the States.
