Default DIY Ring construction

This will surely be the greenest post ever I'm sure 😄
I am in the beginning stage of planning to build custom yurt. Hopin to use materials on hand to serve each facet of yurt .
Is it reasonable to construct ring using landscape timbers ?
Figuring angle cuts , would it be better to use 6 timbers or 12 timbers .
I've read these awesome posts in threads and am inspired to meet my self applied challenge. I'm putting together a yurt to use in a dog park /camp site for some community children & their canine buddy's.
I'm green on terms , it measures 15' from center to outside.
I want to meet this challenge so I have no pride to hurt on my ignorance. Im out to learn and get this quality yurt in existence for these kids ( I'm 60 and got plenty of kid, common sense, ability to learn , backed by hard headed beds when needed to be tenacious to the end .
So startin with the ring - help please. 😄

Yes, I wouldn't using landscaping timbers. There is a lot of information out there on how to build a

center ring

, but I get it that you want to do something different. We have a member here using an old tractor tire:

Think outside of the box, but remember, the box needs to stay erect and not fall on anyone.

Thank u bob rowlands for your input - learned lil about yurt ring construction materials and a lot about your coothlessness. Your input was lil but helpful. Lol
Jafo ,
Why would a circular ring constructed out timbers not work ? It would be miter cut and securely joined with metal band applied around outside ?
Holes drilled at specific angle to insert rafter ends.
If I could learn why that wouldn't work specifically I'd understand better.

The ring is the hardest part of the Yurt to build. It is also the most critical. It needs to be built from shaped consistent material. Typically they are glued and screwed together then milled into a true circle and beveled as a solid piece. The most reliable course is to purchase one from a known manufacturer. But, many woodworkers have successfully followed plans available online or even designed their own.

I would recommend you follow industry standards for yurt size, roof pitch, and ring diameter / shape. If you need to purchase some components for the yurt (Acrylic

Dome

, Cover, etc.), they will work with your yurt.

Hope this helps! jer

You're welcome. Your first post is so goofy I thought you were trolling trying to get someone to give a page of construction details without the slightest bit of info from you. If you are serious I suggest you contact a bonafide structural engineer that will design a landcape timber yurt ring. Maybe they can engineer the whole yurt for free? lol If you somehow manage to cobble together something that collapses on the occupants, while they are taking refuge inside during a storm, you will be in deep trouble my man. Have a good day.

Jafo, for legal reason I suggest NOBODY on this site even begin to try and help this dude come up with any landscape timber ring. Not a soul on this site, except possibly sponsors, have an engineering stamp on their desk at work. For this gentleman to ask for structural details of a landscape timber yurt ring for a thirty foot wide yurt, that the public would use, is absolute foolishness. Jeez the liability factor alone on this request is just goofy beyond belief.
