Default Building some yurts

Hi Everyone.

I just stumbled across this forum while looking for yurt crown options so i thought id share my yurt build with you guys and girls.

Im currently building 3 21ft oak framed yurts for our yoga retreat in France. I'm building them together with a good friend and one of the yurts is for him..

So far we have used close to two cubic meters of oak per yurt which doesn't include the solid oak floor.
All the oak is well seasoned and we kind of rescued it as its been outside for 10 years very slowly degrading.

We are about half way there on two of them as they are identical and I will build the 3rd one during the next two months..

Our plan is to do everything including sewing the canvas,

insulation

and liners.

Its the first time we have made yurts so its a learning curve and the next one will be a lot faster.

Here is some pics:

Still got the doors to assemble and hang in to the frames,
Then cut all the mortices in to the crowns.
The crowns are getting Polycarbonate

dome

covers instead of spokes which should look nice
I also still need to tie together all the trellis poles and machine up about 70sqm of oak for flooring...

Looking very good ! I like what you have done so far. Steaming the roof poles went very well. I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Thanks Jake,

The steaming was a bit touch and go, The pressure cooker on the bbq with copper pipe to steam box was leaking about twice as mooch stem as it was feeding in. We brook about 20 poles out of 200 so not to bad i guess. A lot of them had nots and imperfections and its all just rustic oak.

I picked up the curved glass for the door today so will be assembling that soon and will post some more pics.

You have really documented this well, enough for a book how-to! Think about it. I'm looking forward to the rest !

I like the bent laths and rafters.

I gotta tell ya, I've seen a few wood shops around town here in the last 41 years, but never had to wade through one. lol

I've gone through quite a few yellow body tools since they came out. Bought my fifth DeWalt chop saw this year. Rockwell, Delta, and Makita before that.

Good buildalong for the archives here. Have fun.
