Default New Roof Needed

Is anybody experienced and willing to make us a new roof? Our 12' homemade yurt was built in 2006, originally made with cotton canvas from Seattle Fabrics. It has lived in the woods (predominately Doug fir) on our farm so it's protected from UV rays but not the Pacific NW rain & tree residue (moss, sap, needles, etc). It is now dirty, mossy and rotten and needs to be replaced altogether. We think we'd like our new roof to be vinyl (Pacific Yurt's recommendation) but we're open to suggestions.

Thanks!
Shari & Bryan

Thanks Jeff for the vote of confidence!

We are currently on the road in yurt truck in northern California.

Up here replacing a 32` yurt roof for Starhawk. Let me know soon and we could maybe swing by your place and get you fixed up this weekend. I have tan FR 18 oz. Vinyl coated polyester in the truck.

Cheers

Have you considered putting a sacrificial plastic covering over your yurt?

A 20x25' sheet is usually $30-40 and would protect your canvas from sap/tree droppings/moss. Just on the roof not the sides so as to keep things breathable. Replaceable every 2-3 years or as needed. I plan on doing this to my yurt to extend the canvas life (uv & bird/tree droppings).

A damp climate will kill canvas with mold and mildew, even if it isn't being rained on. I highly suggest a non canvas cover with those climatic condition.

Why is the hood open on the truck? I hope it didn't break down!

We are going to have to get together this year some time. I want to brainstorm some ideas for a yurt counter-top that follows the contour of the walls. I know you like building that stuff.

Truck did actually break down earlier in the trip (nothing major) but I think in this photo we we're checking fluids...

Sounds like a plan let me know when you're thinking, maybe Ray would like to join as well. And yes, I like building that stuff and would be fun to get up to your camp.

Off yurts, but,,. as for vehicle breakdowns, I used to have a VW bug. I carried a basic complement of mechanics tools in a Craftsman tool box with me wherever I went 'just in case'. Well, while traveling cross country with my girlfriend back in 1976, the clutch went out in Fresno CA. We got towed to a vacant field behind a Howard Johnsons. I pulled the engine and replaced the manual clutch in one day-her birthday in fact. Cost me $100. Back then $100 was about like $400 now.
