Just bought a Yurt, have shipping questions

Hello all,
I'm excited to say that my wife and I just put down a hefty deposit on a 30 foot Pacific Yurt. The Yurt is in Oregon and we are moving it to Utah. Pacific Yurts has moving truck size information on their website, but from what I understand the info on the site is just for moving the yurt itself. We will be transporting the Yurt, the Platform, extra deck lumber Cabinets, Tub, Kitchen sink and Oven/range, Wood Stove, water heater etc.

Has anyone here transported the full package at once? I've been looking into renting a uhaul truck, or having UPack drop off a small semi cargo trailer. Can anyone tell me what kind of space requirements I might need?

I have never moved a yurt, but I have had one delivered, and I used to load and deliver furniture many years ago. I am thinking you could get away with a 24-26 foot uhaul just fine.

Out of curiosity, what part of Utah? I recently purchased land in Sanpete (central) Utah with the end plan of placing a yurt there in about 3 years. I've been hesitant to start a dialogue with the county's building department but if someone has already has...

just bought a couple of 30 foot pacific yurts from pacific, each weighs near a ton. Usual finish can be estimated at between 1/2 and a full ton. This should guide your cost issues as it is both weight and volume that are considerations.

You may wish to consider the PODs kind of approach where a container is rented for the move, and it is freighted commercially (usually cheaper when considering your time, costs of gas, overnights, et cetera). Just an idea.
 
So we figured it out. I ended up going with U-pack (ABF freight) they dropped off a 28 foot enclosed cargo (semi) trailer. They charge by linear foot used in the trailer. We used 21 linear feet of trailer space. I flew to and from and ABF is doing the driving. We bought the entire package; yurt, platform, deck, entire kitchen, wood burning stove, loft, extra lumber, and some furniture. The cost to move the whole package from Junction City, Or to Salt Lake City was $1400. This price was $100 more than renting a uhaul truck and driving it myself.

Sapo - I am planning on putting my yurt in the Wanship area (near park city) I have breifly talked with the building official and he said that for a primary residence it has to meet the same codes as a stick built home. This may end up meaning I have to upgrade the rafters and possibly add a center column. Haven't figured out insulation yet. We plan on building either a garage/basement underneath the yurt or a separate structure that will have storage, laundry, workshop, etc. If permitting for primary residence is not going to be feasible we may put a studio apartment in the garage structure and call that the primary residence and put up the yurt after inspections are finished. Time will tell.

Brett, Wanship is a beautiful area. If you need any help with the platform or yurt raising I'd love some first hand experience for when I do mine. Let me know.
